BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Doug Pollack (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) scored his fourth game-winning goal of the year to lift the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team past Washington College 1-0 at Homewood Field. The second-ranked Blue Jays improved to 15-0 overall and 8-0 in the Centennial Conference while the Shoremen dropped to 4-10-1 and 1-7 in the CC.
The win was the seventh 1-0 victory of the year for Johns Hopkins, which has allowed just three goals and recorded 12 shutouts in 15 games. It also extended the Jays' school-record winning streak to 18 games dating back to last season.
Pollack scored the game's lone goal at 26:41 off a defender's deflection 15 yards away from the post. The shot sailed past Washington's senior goalkeeper Ryan Miller, who finished with four saves. Johns Hopkins held advantages in shots (21-3) and corner kicks (10-3).
The Blue Jays conclude their regular season at Franklin & Marshall this Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1 pm while Washington, which will not qualify for the Centennial Conference playoffs, visits McDaniel at 2:30 pm on Saturday.
