Baltimore, MD - Johns Hopkins freshman forward Danny Nawrocki (Syosset, NY/Chaminade) scored a game-high 15 points and added seven rebounds as the Blue Jays defeated McDaniel, 54-46, Wednesday night at Goldfarb Gymnasium.

Hopkins remained in sole possession of second place in the Centennial Conference by improving to 14-6 overall and 10-4 in league play. The Green Terror fell to 6-15 overall and 3-11 in the conference.

Both teams struggled to get untracked in the opening half, and McDaniel took a 21-20 lead into the break. The game remained close in the second period, and a jumper by Green Terror guard Kyle O'Connor put McDaniel up 32-31 with 8:53 remaining.

However, Hopkins took control of the game by going on a 16-4 run over the next three and a half minutes to take a 47-36 lead with 5:09 to play. Senior guard Matt Righter (Clarion, PA/Lawrenceville Prep) started the run with a jumper, and senior guard Kevin Marquez (Oakton, VA/Oakton) followed with two free throws to put the Blue Jays up 35-32 with 7:49 remaining.

Alan Hoyt answered with a lay-up to pull the Green Terror within one, but junior forward Eric Toback (Ellicott City, MD/Mount Hebron) converted a lay-up, Nawrocki hit two foul shots and Mason nailed four straight free throws as the Blue Jays went ahead 43-34 at the 6:22 mark. O'Connor brought McDaniel within seven with two free throws, but Mason drained two more foul shots and Toback followed with a lay-up to put the Blue Jays up 11 with just over five minutes left.

Toback finished with nine points and 12 rebounds for the Blue Jays, who extended their school-record home winning streak to 24 games. Mason also reached double figures with 10 points, while Marquez chipped in eight.

O'Connor led the Green Terror with team-highs of 12 points and seven rebounds, while Chris Rutland added 10 points and six boards.

The Blue Jays travel to Haverford Saturday for a 4 p.m. game with the Fords.
