Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. --Senior guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) scored 14 points, freshman Haley Wojdowski (Mars, PA/Mars Area) added a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds and the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team held off a furious second-half rally by host Haverford as the Blue Jays picked up a 65-62 victory over the Fords Saturday afternoon. The win is the seventh straight for Hopkins, which improves to 19-2, 14-1 in the Centennial Conference. Johns Hopkins is already assured a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament and could still land the top-seed. Haverford slips to 2-19, 1-14.

Hopkins, which never trailed in the game, stretched a 33-22 advantage at the half to a game-high 23-point lead at 55-32 with just over eight minutes remaining. However, the Fords closed the game with a 30-10 run and were within two points twice in the final 70 seconds before the Blue Jays held on by hitting 3-of-4 free throws in the final 21 seconds.

Katie Crowley scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the final seven minutes to lead Haverford's late-game run. Her layup with 6:16 remaining made it 57-37 and she hit 13-of-14 free throws down the stretch, including a pair with 15 seconds remaining that made it 64-62. However, Myers hit 1-of-2 free throws with 12 seconds remaining and the Fords didn't get off a shot after she missed the second free throw.

The Blue Jays led by as many as 13 in the first half as Myers scored 12 of her team-high 14 points before intermission. The 33-22 halftime lead swelled to 55-32 with 8:17 left when Wojdowski drained a three-pointer to cap a 12-4 Blue Jay run. Wojdowski started the run with a three-pointer and added a layup during the spree, which also included back-to-back baskets by sophomore Katie O'Malley (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown). A conventional three-point play by Crowley was matched by a Wojdowski jumper to make it 57-35 with 6:34 to play. That set the stage for Crowley's late game heroics, which nearly led to Haverford's first-ever victory over the Blue Jays.

In addition to Myers and Wojdowski, the Blue Jays got eight points, four rebounds and three steals from junior Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) and seven points from juniors Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) and Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City). Hopkins won the rebounding war, 56-43, but missed 13-of-26 free throws, including 10-of-18 in the second half, to keep the game interesting.

Haverford, which fell to 0-12 all-time against the Blue Jays, was led by Crowley's game-high 22 points, 20 of which she scored in the second half when she hit 14-of-15 from the free throw line. Caitie Kimura added nine of her 12 points in the second, but the Fords hit just 13-of-45 shots from the floor (.289) and surrendered 24 offensive rebounds to the Blue Jays to help seal their fate.
