Johns Hopkins Comes From Behind To Defeat Gettysburg, 76-57

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Johns Hopkins senior guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) scored 15 points of her game-high 18 points in the second half while junior forward Ashanna Randall (Media, Penncrest) posted a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds as the eighth-ranked Blue Jays came back to defeat Gettysburg, 76-57, Wednesday night at Bream Gymnasium.

Hopkins, which won its eighth straight game while improving to 20-2 overall and 15-1 in the Centennial Conference, trailed 40-33 at the half and was down 45-35 with 18:31 remaining after a three-pointer by Bullets forward Jen Bengel. However, the Blue Jays stormed back with a 40-7 run over the next 17 minutes, taking their largest lead of the game at 75-52 when Myers hit two free throws at the 1:35 mark.

Senior guard Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville), who finished with nine points and eight rebounds, began the run with a jumper, and Myers followed with a jumper to make it a 45-39 game with 17:17 to play. Bengel answered with a free throw, but Myers hit a three-pointer and a jumper, and Snyder nailed a foul shot as the Blue Jays pulled within 46-45 at the 13:02 mark.

Emily Falk hit a three-pointer for Gettysburg, which fell to 10-13 overall and 7-9 in the league, but freshman forward Julie Miller (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) and junior guard Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) each scored to tie the game at 49-49 with 12:16 remaining.

Miller, who finished with 16 points and six boards, then hit a three-pointer to give Hopkins the lead, Myers hit a pair of jumpers, and Burkholder drained a jumper to put JHU up 58-49 at the 9:30 mark. After a free throw by Gettysburg's Elizabeth Ross, Randall drained a jumper, junior forward Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City) hit two free throws, and Randall hit a pair of foul shots and a jumper as the Blue Jays went up 66-50 with 4:32 to go.

Bengel led the Bullets with 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Dana Bear added 11 points and Emily Falk chipped in 10. JHU junior forward Kelly Rumsey (Atlanta, GA/Marist) scored eight points for the Blue Jays, while junior guard Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) had four points and seven rebounds.

The Blue Jays, who remained a half-game behind McDaniel in the race for the conference's top seed in next weekend's league tournament, host Ursinus Saturday at 2 p.m.
