Baltimore, MD - ? The Johns Hopkins volleyball team picked up its first win of the season Thursday night as the Blue Jays defeated Goucher by the scores of 30-13, 30-16 and 30-15. The Blue Jays were never seriously threatened in running their all-time record against the Gophers to 17-8.
The Blue Jays were led 23-13 in the first game before sophomore Adri Eisen (New York City, NY/Trinity) served out the game as JHU took seven straight points off of her serves. The Blue Jays used a similar run in game two as they scored eight of the last nine points to turn a 22-15 lead into the 30-16 victory.
The Blue Jays didn?t wait as long in game three as the netted eight straight points on Eisen serves to turn a 2-2 tied into a 10-2 lead. Goucher trimmed the deficit to 11-7,but JHU gradually pulled away to secure the 30-15 match-sealing victory in game three.
The Blue Jays were led by junior Katie O?Callaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) and senior Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/Southside). O?Callaghan had a team-high 13 kills, while Baydala added 11 with no hitting errors. She also added 13 assists. Freshman Mary Gorski (Birmingham, MI/Shrine Catholic) had a team-high 20 assists, while she had seven digs and three service aces.
Goucher got five kills and 12 digs from freshman Margaret Eqiziaco (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla), while junior Kim Thompson (Monkton, MD/Hereford) added four kills and six digs.
