Gary Kane Jr. (Lansdale, PA/La Salle) made three saves and recorded his fifth shutout of the year as the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team blanked McDaniel 2-0 in a Centennial Conference matchup at Gill Field. The fourth-ranked Blue Jays remain undefeated at 7-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the league while the Green Terror drops to 4-3-0 and 1-1-0.
Johns Hopkins jumped to an early lead when junior Adam Simon (Bethesda, MD/Landon) crossed the ball to senior Doug Pollack (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) just 9:44 into the game. While holding McDaniel to just three first-half shots, the Blue Jays capitalized on offense with another goal before the break.
Junior Steve Read (Skillman, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) scored his team-high fifth goal of the year at 29:12 off a pass from Edmond Wybaillie (Great Falls, VA/Langley), who has four of the team's nine assists this season, and Hopkins led 2-0 at the half.
The Blue Jays took eight shots in the second and held the Green Terror to just four for a 14-7 total shot advantage. Andrew Wu finished with six saves for McDaniel, which edged Hopkins in corner kicks 7-4.
The Blue Jays return to action at Drew this Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1 p.m.
