BALTIMORE - Gettysburg came to Homewood Field with four wins, and left with a 2-0 upset win over #20 Johns Hopkins on Tuesday night in Centennial Conference women's soccer.
The Bullets pulled to within a game of .500 at 5-6-1, and improved to 3-2-1 in Centennial play. Hopkins falls to 11-2-1 on the season and 4-1-1 in the conference.
Gettysburg got on the board at the 18:22 on a shot by freshman Christine Heerwagon (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury Regional). Heerwagon took a pass from freshman Erin Miller (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) and blasted what appeared to be a cross from 10 yards out, but the ball kept curving and snuck under the top left corner of the goal, out of the reach of Hopkins senior goalie Jen Goebel (Jericho, NY/Jericho).
In the 76th minute, the Bullets added another when senior Kristen Igusky (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) cleared the ball out of the Gettysburg end of the field to junior Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/WSTES), who got past the Hopkins defense and put the Bullets up 2-0.
The loss knocked the Blue Jays from the ranks of the undefeated in Centennial play, with only Dickinson remaining. The Red Devils are 4-0 in the league, with two conference games on the slate this week.
Hopkins looks to avenge the loss on Saturday at Homewood Field with a 1 p.m. match against Bryn Mawr, a team the Blue Jays have beaten 11 times in a row.
