MONTCLAIR, NJ -- Senior Traver Davis poked home a rebound of his own shot with just 32 seconds remaining in the first overtime to lift the Johns Hopkins men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory against host Montclair State Wednesday night. The Blue Jays ran their unbeaten streak to five games and improve to 7-1-3, while the Red Hawks dropped their second straight and slip to 7-4-1.

The Blue Jays appeared to be heading for their fourth double overtime game in their last five outings before Davis provided the heroics. Hopkins gained control of the ball in the offensive end and worked the ball into the box, where Davis fired from about seven yards out. His shot was deflected by a Montclair defender, but the rebound came right back to Davis, who wasted little time punching the game-winner into the upper left-hand corner of the goal.

The Blue Jays, who were outshot, 15-11, opened the scoring at the 21-minute mark as senior Steve Read lofted a shot from 25 yards out just under the cross bar and above Montclair goalie Chris Owen. Read's goal, his first of the season, gave the Blue Jays what proved to be a short-lived 1-0 lead.

The Red Hawks tied the game less than seven minutes after Read scored as Ilyas Tasci ripped a shot from the top of the box just inside the left post for his fourth goal of the year. Neither team could find the back of the net in the final 60 minutes of regulation as Owen and Hopkins' Dan Coble kept the score knotted at 1-1. Coble finished with three saves for the Blue Jays, while Owen made one stop for Montclair.
