CHESTERTOWN, MD - Johns Hopkins (6-1, 4-0) made 48.1 percent of its field goal attempts to claim a 67-41 decision over Washington College (1-6, 1-3) on Thursday night in Centennial Conference women's basketball.
The Blue Jays turned in their best shooting performance of the season, connecting on 25-of-52 field goal attempts. Hopkins held Washington to only 22.6 percent (12-53) from the floor.
Hopkins took a 30-19 lead to the break, using a 7-0 run that included two field goals from senior Amanda Leese (Amherst, MA/Bishop Guertin) to close out the first half. Leese finished the first half with eight points.
Five points from junior Haley Wojdowski (Mars, PA/Mars Area) closed out a 13-5 run by the Blue Jays to open up the second half, which put away the Shorewomen for good. Hopkins didn't look back and expanded its lead to as much as 28 with 3:18 remaining in the second half.
Three scorers got into double figures for the Blue Jays, led by Leese with 13 points, making 6-of-9 shots from the field. Junior Whitney Davis (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) contributed a season-high 12 points, making a team-best 4-of-5 attempts from the free throw line. Senior Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City) posted a season-high of her own, with 11 points in the win.
Sophomore Elise Conway and junior LaToya Turner each scored nine to lead the Shorewomen.
Hopkins will get a 20-day break before heading to San Antonio, Texas for the Trinity Invitational, beginning on Dec. 28 with a matchup against Ripon.
