Miller and Randall Lead Blue Jays Past Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Sophomore Julie Miller (Annandale, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scored a game-high 20 points and senior Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) added 15 points and eight rebounds as the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team defeated Ursinus 82-51 in Collegeville. The Blue Jays (20-4, 15-2 Centennial Conference) shot 50 percent from the field, including 7 for 10 from three-point range, and held a 44-24 rebounding advantage en route to their 16th straight win over the Bears (11-13, 7-10 CC).

Randall scored six points in the first five minutes to help Hopkins take a 14-6 lead. The Blue Jays had their first double-digit lead, 21-10, at 11:27 before Molly Guntil and Mary Kate Daley paced an Ursinus run that brought the Bears within three points, 25-22, with 5:21 remaining in the first.

Six Blue Jays scored in the final five minutes, when they outscored Ursinus 17-6 to take a 42-28 lead at the break. Randall ignited the run with a jumper in the lane; sophomore Haley Wojdowski (Mars, PA/Mars Area) and junior Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City) each hit three-pointers; and sophomore Tamera Means (McDonough, GA/Eagle Landing), senior Ashley Felix (Pittsburgh, PA/North Catholic) and junior Katie O'Malley (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) all went 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Hopkins shot 58 percent from the field in the first half, and Miller led all scorers with 12 points.

Miller scored six points in the first six minutes of the second half as the Blue Jays kept their momentum from the first. Hopkins led by 20 (52-30) with 13:25 on the clock and never let Ursinus get closer than 17 points. The Jays ended the game with a 13-2 run that included back-to-back threes from sophomore Whitney Davis (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale).

Hopkins finished the game 27 for 54 (.500) from the field, their second-best shooting performance this season, and 7 for 10 (.700) from long range. The Jays also went 21 for 27 (.778) from the foul line and grabbed 20 more rebounds than the Bears. Kimball had nine points, six rebounds, seven assists and three blocks, while Felix added five points, six assists and four steals. Daley led Ursinus with 17 points.

Johns Hopkins plays its final regular-season game at Franklin & Marshall next Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Hopkins, Dickinson and McDaniel have clinched playoff berths in the Centennial Conference Tournament, which is scheduled for Feb. 24, 26 and 27.
