HAVERFORD, PA -- The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team outscored host Haverford 27-6 over the final nine minutes of the game and placed three players in double figures as the Blue Jays picked up a 71-51 Centennial Conference victory Tuesday night. Hopkins improves to 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Fords fall to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the league.
Haverford, which led by as many as nine in the first half and seven early in the second half, took its last lead of the game with just under 10 minutes remaining at 45-44 on a Katie Crowley jumper. From there, it was all Hopkins as the Blue Jays scored the next nine points and 27 of the game's final 33 to seal the victory.
A pair of jumpers from senior Amanda Leese and four points from freshman Caitlin Sloane ignited the 9-0 run that gave the Blue Jays what would prove to be an insurmountable 53-45 lead. The 27-6 spree would eventually include six points from Leese, five from junior Julie Miller and four from Sloane and junior Haley Wojdowski.
Wojdowski led the Blue Jays with 15 points, while Leese added 13 points and 13 rebounds. Miller chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds and senior Katie Kimball came up with seven of the team's 14 steals on the night.
Abby Scattergood scored a team-high 15 points and added five rebounds for Haveford, which also got 11 points from Brittany Lattisaw and 10 points from Crowley. But the Fords hit just 14-of-29 from the free throw line and turned the ball over 32 times to help seal their own fate.
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Thursday night when the Blue Jays host Ursinus in another Centennial Conference matchup.
