BRYN MAWR, PA - Freshman Kristin Phillips (Wilmington DE/Tower Hill) scored a career-high 11 points and added a personal-best 12 rebounds to lead the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team to a 60-31 victory over host Bryn Mawr Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays, who have won five of their last six games, improve to 12-4 overall and 9-1 in the Centennial Conference, while the Owls slip to 2-14 overall and 0-10 in the league.
The Blue Jays trailed, 7-4, after a jumper by Bryn Mawr's Amy Johnson early in the first half, but a layup by sophomore Andrea Dodrill (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) jump-started a 21-1 run for Hopkins that covered a span of nearly 14 minutes and gave the Blue Jays what would prove to be an insurmountable 25-8 lead with just under three minutes remaining in the first half. Six different Blue Jays scored during the spree, with senior Katie Kimball (Garden City, NY/Garden City) connecting for seven of her 10 points in the game during the run. Phillips and Dodrill both added four points during the game-deciding rally.
Bryn Mawr's Jessica Allen scored five quick points to ignite a 9-4 half-ending run for the Owls that made it 29-17 at the break, but the Blue Jays scored 13 of the first 16 points in the second half to extend the lead to 42-20 with just under 14 minutes remaining and the Owls were never closer than 19 the rest of the way as Hopkins improved to 15-0 all-time against Bryn Mawr.
Phillps and Kimball were joined in double figures by Dodrill and junior Julie Miller (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson), who both tallied 10 points. Hopkins held a commanding 55-24 rebounding advantage, forced 21 Bryan Mawr turnovers and registered eight blocks in the game.
Johnson scored a game-high 12 points to lead Bryn Mawr, while Allen added seven points and five rebounds. The Owls got just one point from their non-starters and shot just 22.4% from the field.
Johns Hopkins will host Washington College on Tuesday (January 24) at 7:00 pm.
