BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Dickinson on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays (11-11, 2-3) dropped their second straight match by scores of 28-30, 26-30, 23-30. Dickinson improves to 11-12, 5-1 with the win.
Game one was a battle that went back and forth between the two teams, as the first game saw six ties including one at 28-28 before Dickinson secured the final two points for the win. Game two saw the Blue Jays open up an 11-5 lead on the service game of Lizzie Kay (Pacific Palisades, CA/The Cate School). Hopkins would stretch its lead in game two to 19-13 before Dickinson battled back to tie the game at 21-21. Dickinson battled to take a 26-25 lead on the service game of Amanda Lehn and hold on for the game two victory. Game three, saw the Red Devils open up an early 8-3 lead and the Blue Jays were unable to overcome that margin, falling in game three.
Elitsa Gosheva had 14 kills for the Red Devils while Jen Voltz contributed 24 assists. Kristen Lee contributed 12 digs to the Red Devils game. This is the first win for the Red Devils over the Blue Jays since the 1990 season.
The Blue Jays were led by sophomores Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) and Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall). Jackanich posted her third straight double-double and seventh of the season with 11 kills and added 13 digs. Lewis contributed her fourth straight double-double and ninth of the year with 40 assists and 13 digs. Kay had a team-high 20 digs while senior Laura Carrihill (Manhasset, NY/Convent of the Sacred Heart) posted a team-high 12 kills.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 14th when the team hosts Haverford at 1 p.m.
