BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team rallied from two down to force a decisive game five but ended up falling 3-2 to Haverford on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (11-12, 2-4) dropped their third straight match while Haverford (18-4, 4-2) picked up its fourth win in its last five tries.
Haverford won game one, 30-21 on the strength of five and seven point runs on the service games of Rachel Salvo and Dana Mullenhard. The Blue Jays showed signs of life in game two, taking the Fords to extra points before the visitors claimed the 36-34 win. Game three, saw Hopkins rattle off 12 straight points behind the service game of senior Lizzie Kay (Pacific Palisades, CA/The Cate School) and take a 19-6 lead, the Blue Jays would hold on for the 30-12 win in game three. Game four saw the scored tied 23-23 late before Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) used a strong service game to give Hopkins the game four win, 30-23. In the decisive game five, Haverford stepped up and delivered a 15-10 win to claim the match.
Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) and Jackanich both kept their double-double streaks intact as Lewis posted 65 assists and 15 digs and also added seven kills for her fifth straight double-double and tenth of the year. Jackanich posted team-high 16 kills and added 21 digs for her fourth straight double-double eighth on the year. Kay posted a team-high 40 digs while Adri Eisen (New York, NY/Trinity) had 25 digs and Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) had 29 digs.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 18th when the Blue Jays travel to Washington College for a 7 p.m. match.
