BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team won its 100th Centennial Conference match, as the Blue Jays defeated Bryn Mawr by a 3-1 score on Saturday afternoon. With its second straight win Hopkins improves to 13-12, 4-4 in the Centennial while Bryn Mawr drops to 10-11, 0-8 in the Centennial.
Hopkins becomes the third team in the history of the Centennial Conference to reach the mark in volleyball. Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall are the other two teams to reach the milestone. Hopkins now has an all-time record in the Centennial of 100-38 for volleyball.
Game one saw the Blue Jays jump out to an early 5-0 lead, with sophomore Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) serving. Jackanich later helped the Blue Jays push their lead to 18-8 with a five point service run, Hopkins went on to capture game one 30-16. The second game started off different, as Bryn Mawr jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. Hopkins battled back to tie it at 9-9, before Julia Harris and the Owls jumped out to a 13-9 advantage. The Blue Jays battled back to tie the game at 26-26 before Bryn Mawr broke away and won game two by a 30-26 score. Hopkins took game three, 30-22 for a 2-1 advantage in the match. Game four saw the Blue Jays open up a 20-10 advantage and eventually win game four by a 30-14 score.
Jackanich led the Blue Jays with a team-high 13 kills and she added five digs. Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) dished out 48 assists and just missed a double double as she had nine digs on the afternoon. Lizzie Kay (Pacific Palisades, CA/The Cate School) posted a team-high 26 digs while Adri Eisen (New York, NY/Trinity) had 12 digs and five service aces on the night. Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University High School) recorded 11 kills.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 25th for its final home game of the year. The Blue Jays will take on McDaniel at 7 p.m.
