BALTIMORE, MD - In their first meet this season against a Division III opponent, the Johns Hopkins women's swim team (1-2) beat Franklin & Marshall 146-115 at home. The win was highlighted by nine wins for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins opened the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Freshman Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) swam the first leg, followed by senior Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central) and sophomore Kristin Cunningham (North Potomac, MD). Sophomore Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/The Culver Academies) anchored the leg for a total time of 1:5347. In the first individual event of the day, freshman Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD/Stone Ridge) earned a win the 1000 Free with a time of 10:59.68.
Sophomore Elissa Stautner (The Woodlands, TX/Oak Ridge) followed that with a win in the 200 Free (1:58.68). She just beat out Cunningham, who finished in 1:58.89. Hopkins then took second through fourth in the 50 Back, with Qu finishing second in a time of 29.56. Foster then took first in the 50 Breast (32.63), with freshman Sarah Thomas coming in second (34.37).
Rooney got the first of her two wins in the 50 Free, finishing in 25.55. She followed that up with a win in the 100 Free with a time of 55.32. Qu then took second in the 100 Back (1:03.12). Foster followed that with her second win, finishing in 1:09.97 in the 100 Breast. Stautner got a win in the 500 Free, finishing in 5:15.99. Cunningham just missed out on a win in the 50 Fly, finishing in 27.48, just .08 behind the Diplomats' Brittany McCabe.
Foster then took second in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:18.82. Hopkins wrapped up the meet with a win in the 200 Free Relay. Cunningham swam the first leg, followed by Qu and Thomas. Rooney anchored the relay to a total time of 1:42.05.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 4 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
