PITTSBURGH, PA - Just one week after falling in the AMCC Championship game, the Pitt-Greensburg Women's Basketball team got a little bit of redemption this afternoon, as they defeated Johns Hopkins University to claim the ECAC ?Southern Region Championship. With the 59-54 win, the Bobcats moved to 24-6 overall, and set a new school record for wins in a season. Johns Hopkins finished their season at 22-8.

The first-half was all Pitt-Greensburg, as they used a pressing and trapping defense to cause the Blue Jays fits, and hold them to just 15 points. The Bobcats held Johns Hopkins to just 18% shooting in the half, and caused nine turnovers, as they jumped to a 30-15 lead at the break. The second half saw the Blue Jays make a comeback, that got as close as four points, but they were unable to finish the job, and Pitt-Greensburg held on down the stretch for the victory.

Perhaps the biggest play of the game happened at the 1:16 mark of the second half, when Teya Minor (Uniontown, PA/Uniontown/Potomac State) hit a running bank-shot just as the shot clock was about to expire to give the Bobcats a six-point lead that they would not relinquish. Minor was named the ECAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, after scoring 13 points in the championship game.

The Bobcats' Tish Hines (Clairton, PA/Clairton) lead the way offensively with a game-high 17 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 performance from behind the arc. Hines also collected 10 rebounds, to record a double-double. The Blue Jays were led by freshman Caitlin Sloane (Baltimore, MD/St. Paul's), who came off the bench to pour in 14 points. Senior Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) added 11 points and junior Julie Miller (Annandale, VA/Thomas Jefferson) netted 10. The Blue Jays were held to just 32% shooting for the game.
