LEWISBURG, PA - In the second meeting in three days between the Johns Hopkins and Navy water polo teams, the Midshipmen came out on top once again. Navy (12-5) defeated Johns Hopkins (7-8) 13-11 in a match hosted by Bucknell Saturday night. The Blue Jays were led by junior Sean McCreery (Pleasant Hill, CA/ De La Salle) with five goals.
Hopkins jumped on Navy early, holding a 3-1 lead with 3:14 to go in the opening quarter. However, the Mids rallied to end the quarter with a 4-3 lead. Navy never trailed for the rest of the game, holding off every Hopkins rally. The Blue Jays outscored the MIds 4-3 in the fourth, but it was not enough to pull out the upset win.
McCreery led the Blue Jays with five goals, including two in the final quarter. Sophomore Alex Bond (North Wales, PA/Germantown Academy) and junior Chris Hemmerle (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) scored two each. McCreery now leads the team with 35 goals on the season.
Hopkins returns to action at the Convergence Tournament in Claremont, CA next weekend. Competition begins on Friday, October 6.
