GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped its first match at the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg on Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays fell to Elizabethtown 3-0 (24-30, 28-30, 18-30). Hopkins was able to rebound in the nightcap match defeating Richard Stockton by a 3-2 score (30-19, 30-15, 29-31, 24-30, 15-8). Johns Hopkins now stands at 4-3 on the year with today's split.
Hopkins fell in three games to the Blue Jays from Elizabethtown. Freshman Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) continued the strong start to her Blue Jay career by leading the team in kills with 12. Sophomore Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) posted 25 assists and three service aces while senior Lizzie Kay (Pacific Palisades, CA/The Cate School) nailed down 22 digs for the game.
The Blue Jays were looking to rebound in the next match versus Richard Stockton and Hopkins came out firing grabbing games one and two. Stockton took games three and four to force a decisive game five. Hopkins was able to take care of business in that one and claim the match. Cappelaere had another strong match recording a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Lewis recorded 60 assists and four service aces while Kay had 26 digs.
The Blue Jays are back in action on September 9th when they continue play at the Battlefield Classic at Gettysburg.
