EWING, NJ - The Johns Hopkins women's swim team defeated TCNJ 232-132 but fell to Division II West Chester 258206 in a tri-meet at TCNJ. The Blue Jays are now 5-4 on the season. Sophomores Kristin Cunningham (North Potomac, MD) and Kate Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) led the Blue Jays with individual wins.
Hopkins opened the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:52.74. Junior Erica Pakkala (Lititz, PA/Warwick) swam the first leg, followed by senior Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central), Cunningham and freshman Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/The Culver Academies). Freshman Elissa Stautner (The Woodlands, TX/Oak Ridge) then took third in the 200 Free (1:58.84).
Freshman Caitlin Dennis (Moorestown, NJ/Merion Mercy Academy) placed second in the 400 IM (4:44.06) with Cunningham taking third in the 100 Fly (1:00.11). The 200 Free Relay took second in 1:42.33. Cunningham swam the first leg with freshman Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster), sophomore Val Neff-Rasmussen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) and Rooney following.
Foster placed second in the 100 Breast in 1:07.77. The 800 Free Relay team followed with a second place finish in 8:01.88. Foster, Hansen, sophomore Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD/Stone Ridge) and Stautner swam the relay. Stautner then took third in the 1650 Free with a time of 18:01.44 - besting her career time of 18:20.95. The 400 Medley Relay team picked up a win with a time of 4:05.38 Zepp, Foster, Qu and Cunningham swam the relay. Dennis placed second in the 200 IM with her second best time of the season - 2:13.64.
Cunningham took third in the 50 Free with a time of 24.78 - her best time of the season. Qu then took third in the 200 Fly with Hopkins best time of the season - 2:13.32. Cunningham got her win in the 100 Free with her second best time of the season, finishing in 53.49. Hansen followed that with a win in the 200 Back with her second best time of the season (2:10.35). Dennis picked her third second place finish, swimming a time of 2:27.41 in the 200 Breast. Hopkins wrapped up the meet with a third place finish in the 400 Free Relay (3:46.95). Neff-Rasmussen, Foster, Rooney and freshman Sarah Thomas (Portsmouth, NH/St. Thomas Aquinas) swam the relay.
Hopkins returns to action on January 27, 2007 when Washington & Lee visits Baltimore. The meet is set to begin at 12:30 pm. This will be the Blue Jays final dual meet of the season as the Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championships follow in mid-February.
