LANCASTER, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team handed Franklin & Marshall a 3-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays (9-4-1, 5-1 CC) won their third straight contest and posted their third straight shut out.
Hopkins got on the board first in this one as the Blue Jays were awarded a corner kick in the 13th minute. Junior Lisa Irizarry took the kick and sailed it to the net where sophomore Caitlin Moore was able to head it home for her second goal of the year.
The Blue Jays added to their lead in the 33rd minute as sophomore Natalie Held pushed a shot in off the defender who was trying to clear the ball. Hopkins out shot Franklin & Marshall 10-1 in the first half.
The Blue Jays capped the scoring in the 84th minute as junior Molly Steele scored her team leading sixth goal of the season off an assist from fellow junior Jane O'Connor.
The Blue Jays finished the game holding a 22-1 advantage in shots after out shooting the Diplomats 12-0 in the second half. The Blue Jays also had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Erin Roy made 12 saves in goal for the Diplomats on the night. Sophomore Karen Guszkowski started the game between the pipes for the Blue Jays and made one save in 66:52. Fellow sophomore Jessica Cynowiec played the final 23:08 in goal and was not forced to make a save.
The Blue Jays return home on Saturday October 13 to historic Homewood Field. Hopkins hosts Muhlenberg at 7:30 p.m.
