BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team scored three second half goals to defeat Muhlenberg 3-1 on Saturday night in Baltimore. The Blue Jays (10-4-1, 6-1 CC) won their fourth straight contest as three different players scored and added an assist in the game.
Muhlenberg took the lead early in the game. In the 15th minute Kimberly Hacker crossed a ball from the near side of the net to the far side and Kasey Hacker knocked it home, to give the Mules the 1-0 lead. Despite trailing at the half, the Blue Jays out shot the Mules 8-3 in the first stanza.
Hopkins came out of the break firing and in the 73rd minute it paid off. Junior Molly Steele (Daleville, VA/North Cross) sent a ball into the box that freshman Allie Zazzali (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was able to settle. Zazzali then nudged the ball to senior Kim Lane (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) who fired it home for her fourth goal of the year and a tie game. Just three minutes later, it was Zazzali putting the Blue Jays on top 2-1. Lane took a corner kick that Zazzali headed home for her fourth goal of the year.
Steele capped the scoring for the Blue Jays in the 88th minute as she dribbled in and beat the keeper to make a 3-1 contest.
Hopkins finished the game, outshooting the Mules 22-4 including 14-1 in the second half. The Blue Jays also held a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Kate Morrissey finished with five saves for Muhlenberg while sophomore Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) made one save.
Hopkins is off until October 20 when the Blue Jays host the Bryn Mawr Owls at 4 p.m.
