BALTIMORE, MD - Senior Kim Lane's (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) goal in the 56th minute lifted the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over McDaniel on Tuesday night. The Blue Jays (12-4-1, 8-1 CC) won their sixth straight contest with their ninth shutout of the year.
Hopkins applied the pressure in the first half getting off 13 shots but was unable to find the back of the net. The Blue Jays held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks in the first half.
In the 56th minute, the Blue Jays were finally able to put one on the board. Freshman Allie Zazzali (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) sent a ball in that Lane was able to bend home into the far corner. It was Lane's fifth goal of the year.
Hopkins finished the game with a 30-2 advantage in shots as Leanne Hollinger made 15 saves for McDaniel on the night. Sophomore Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) was not forced to make a save in recording her fourth shutout of the season.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 27 versus Ursinus. Game time in Collegeville is set for 1 p.m. The winner of that game will earn the right to host the Centennial Conference playoffs.
