COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated Ursinus 3-1 on Saturday in its regular season finale. The Blue Jays (23-4, 9-1 CC) won their seventh straight match and secured the second seed for the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament.
Hopkins jumped on top early in this one taking game one by a 30-20 score and game two by a score of 30-12. Ursinus (5-18, 1-9 CC) captured game three by a score of 30-28 to force a game four. The Blue Jays jumped out to the early 7-0 lead behind the service game of junior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) and went on to win game four 30-15.
The Blue Jays got strong contributions from several players on the day. Sophomore Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS) had a team-high 13 kills and four block assists. Junior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) contributed a double-double on the day with 46 assists and 10 digs. Junior Adrienne Young (Oakton, VA/Thomas Jefferson) was the other Blue Jay to reach double digit kills with 11 while senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) had 15 digs. Jackanich just missed the double-double with nine kills and 11 digs.
Ursinus was led by Mary Kate Wilmoth who posted 15 kills and 16 digs. Jennifer Fargo had 21 assists and 16 digs while Jill Alspach posted 13 digs.
The Blue Jays will return to action next weekend at the Centennial Conference Tournament hosted by Haverford College. Hopkins will be the two seed and face McDaniel for the second time in just over a week. Game time will be announced next week.
