COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team battled Ursinus College to a 0-0 tie in double overtime on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays (12-4-2, 8-1-1 CC) end the regular season on a seven game unbeaten streak and will host the Centennial Conference Tournament next weekend.
The first half of the game saw the game played mostly at the midfield. It took till there were 24 minutes left in the first half for either team to get a shot off. Both teams got four shots off in the first half.
Hopkins held a commanding 8-0 advantage in shots in the second half. Freshman Erin Stafford (Doylestown, PA/Villa Joseph Marie) had the best opportunity of the half as she had a shot hit off the crossbar with just over 24 minutes to go in the second half.
Ursinus held a 1-0 advantage in the first overtime. The play was primarily at the midfield in that stanza.
The Bears held a 2-1 advantage in the second overtime but neither team was able to dent the back of the net.
Hopkins held a 13-7 advantage in shots for the game while Ursinus held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) made three saves for the Blue Jays. Ashley Potter had five saves for the Bears on the day.
Hopkins will return to action in the Centennial Conference Tournament to be played at Homewood Field on November 3rd and 4th. The Blue Jays will face the winner of the game between the four and five seeds to be played in the middle of this week.
