SWARTHMORE, PA - Head coach Scott Pennewill tied the Johns Hopkins record for coaching victories as the Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated Swarthmore, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (18-4, 4-1 CC) won their second straight contest with the victory as Pennewill won his 98th match at Hopkins. That win ties him with Heidi Mass.

Hopkins won game one by a 30-16 score as the Blue Jays hit .293 in the game compared to just .167 for the Garnet. The Blue Jays captured game two by a 30-22 score and clinched the win with a 30-17 victory in game three.

Swarthmore received a double-double from Kearney Bangs who had 31 assists and 11 digs. Vanessa Wells led the Garnet with 11 kills while Erin Heaney posted 20 digs. Jen Wang was the other Garnet to reach double digits for digs with 13.

Hopkins received a double-double from sophomore Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) with 12 kills and 11 digs. Junior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) dished out 30 assists and needs just 14 more to tie the school record for career assists. Junior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) just missed a double-double with 14 digs and nine kills. Senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) posted a team-best 13 kills.

Hopkins is back in action on Wednesday, October 10 at Franklin & Marshall. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Lancaster, PA.
