BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's swimming team won the Thomas Murphy Invitational hosted by Loyola College this weekend. Also participating was the Virginia Military Institute.
Hopkins opened with a win in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:28.99. Sophomore John Thomas (Montrose, CO/Montrose), freshman Brian Keeley (Rockford, MI/Rockford), junior Bob Sershon (Chicago, IL/St. Patrick) and senior Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) swam the relay for the Blue Jays. Junior Colin Kleingeutl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) followed that with a win in the 500 Free (4:44.55) with freshman Alex Hsieh (Beijing, China/International School of Beijing) finishing in second (4:44.77). Keeley and sophomore Neil Mahoney (Excelsior, MN/Minnetonka) then took 1-2 in the 200 IM finishing in 1:57.55 and 1:58.13 respectively.
Test and senior Matt Fedderly (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School) then finished 1-2 in the 50 Free with times of 21.59 and 21.74 respectively. The Blue Jay wins continued with a first place finish in the 800 Free Relay. Hsieh, Mahoney, Thomas and Kleinguetl swam the relay in 7:00.04. Fedderly, Keeley, Thomas and Test then combined to win the 200 Free Relay in 1:26.70.
Fedderly and Kleinguetl finished first and second in the 400 IM, with Hsieh winning the 200 Free. Thomas then won the 100 Back with Mahoney finishing in third. Keeley picked up a win in the 100 Breast (58.84) just edging out Fedderly in second (58.89). Test then won the 100 Free (47.67) while Fedderly won the 200 Breast (2:09.29). Hopkins closed out the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay. Mahoney, sophomore Teddy Bulakul (Bangkok, Thailand/Hotchkiss), Hsieh and Test swam the relay in 3:11.88.
Hopkins returns to action at the Nike Cup hosted by Kenyon beginning November 29 and running through December 1.
