DURHAM, NC - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team (12-7) dropped all four of its matches at the Duke Invitational Friday. Hopkins lost to Notre Dame (22-5), North Carolina (15-12), Duke (21-6) and Air Force (17-10). Both of Hopkins wins came in the Foil on Friday.
In the Foil, sophomore David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) posted a 5-4 mark while classmate Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) went 4-3. Sophomore Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) was even at 5-5 and senior Nick Marchuk (Ringoes, NJ/The Hun School) went 4-6. Hopkins defeated North Carolina and Air Force by 6-3 scores in the Foil and lost a narrow match to Notre Dame 5-4.
In the Epee, freshman Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU) went 7-5 for the Blue Jays. Sophomores Dan Zielinski (Bernardville, NJ/Bernardville) and Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) each went 2-10.
In the Sabre, junior Jacob Sand (Laverock, PA/Germantown Friends) posted a 3-6 mark. Freshman Trevor Van Eeuwen went 1-11, senior Andrew Carney (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) went 1-5 and sophomore David Hill (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) went 0-9.
The Blue Jays return to action at the Northwestern Invitational February 24 and 25 in Evanston, IL.
