MAPLEWOOD, NJ - The Johns Hopkins men's fencing team picked up four wins at NJIT on Sunday to move to 16-7 on the season. Hopkins defeated Army (15-12), Drew (15-12), Cornell (17-10) and Lafayette (20-7). Sophomores Jimmy Einsiedler (Falmouth, ME/Waynflete School) and Ben Dorfman (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) each went undefeated in their bouts for the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays used wins in the Sabre (5-4) and the Foil (7-2) to defeat Army. The Black Knights won the Epee 6-3. A dominant performance in the Foil (9-0) propelled Hopkins to a win over Drew, after losing the Sabre and the Epee by 6-3 scores. The Blue Jays wins in the Foil (6-3) and the Epee (7-2) led them to a win over Cornell, despite a 5-4 loss in the Sabre. Hopkins closed out with a strong win over Lafayette. The Blue Jays swept all three weapons in the win.
Einsiedler and Dorfman each went 7-0 in the Foil for the Blue Jays, with Marchuk going 3-0. Sophomore David Ferguson (New York, NY/Stuyvesant) posted a 6-2 mark and freshman Paul Nunley (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) went 4-1. In the Sabre, freshman Trevor Van Eeuwen posted a 10-2 record. Sophomore David Hill (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) went 5-7, while senior Andrew Carney (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) went 3-4 and junior Jacob Sand (Laverock, PA/Germantown Friends) went 2-3.
In the Epee, sophomore Dane Schiro (Hagerstown, MD/Hagerstown) went 5-4 and Marchuk went 3-1. Sophomore Max Mealy (Davis, CA/Davis Senior) and freshman Harry Oppenheim (Weston, FL/University School of NSU) each went 4-4. Sophomore Dan Zielinski (Bernardville, NJ/¬¬Bernardville) posted a 2-4 mark.
