Box Score

WASHINGTON, DC - The #10 Georgetown Hoyas (3-1) used a 6-0 second half run to beat the #12 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (4-2) 16-13 Wednesday afternoon. Hopkins was led by an eight-point effort from senior attacker Mary Key (Stevensville, MD/St. Mary's).

It was a back and forth game from the start with Hopkins striking first when fifth-year senior Sarah Walsh (Port Washington, NY/P.D. Schreiber) and Key connected just 1:16 into the game. Georgetown answered with a goal from Patty Piotrowicz less than two minutes to later. The Blue Jays retook the lead when Walsh and Key connected once again with 24:31 to play in the half. Just 31 seconds later, the score was all tied up after a Bunny O'Reilly goal.

Key gave Hopkins back a one-goal lead when she picked up a loose ball in front of the Hoyas' cage and fired a low shot to the far post. Brittany Baschuk responded just 50 seconds later for the Hoyas, igniting a 4-0 run as Georgetown pushed out to a 7-3 lead. Junior Kadie Stamper (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) stemmed the tide for Hopkins with a free-position goal with 4:32 to play. Baschuk struck again with just 21.1 seconds on the clock to make it an 8-4 game heading into the half.

Hopkins came out firing in the second half, outscoring Georgetown 4-1 to start as the Blue Jays cut the deficit to 9-8 with 23:16 to play in the game. Zan Morley ended the Hopkins run when she scored just over a minute later starting a 6-0 Georgetown run that spanned the next 11 minutes and pushed the Hoyas lead out to 15-8. The Blue Jays came right back with a run of their own, outscoring the Hoyas 5-1 over the final minutes but it was not enough.

Seven different Blue Jays scored led by Key's four goals. Walsh finished with two assists to go with two goals. She now ranks tied for 10th all-time in Hopkins history with 49 career assists. Six different Hoyas scored, with Baschuk, O'Reilly and Schuyler Sutton finishing with four each. Sophomore Amelia Harris (Clifton, VA/J.W. Robinson) finished with 10 saves for Hopkins while Maggie Koch had eight for Georgetown.

Hopkins returns to action on March 21 when the Blue Jays travel to College Park to face the Maryland Terrapins. Game time at Ludwig Field is set for 7:00 pm.
