SALISBURY, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team went 1-1 at the Salisbury Invitational on Friday. Hopkins (13-3) fell to Salisbury before defeating New Jersey City. The Blue Jays conclude the tournament on Saturday with two matches.

Hopkins faced Salisbury in its first match of the day. The Blue Jays and Sea Gulls have met two times already this season with Hopkins taking both contests. This time however, it was Salisbury coming away with the 3-1 victory. The Blue Jays took game one by a score of 30-21 before the Sea Gulls bounced back to take the next three, 31-29, 31-29 and 30-28. Junior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) posted the double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs. Senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) contributed her own double-double with 10 kills and 23 digs. Junior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) was the third Blue Jay with a double-double as she dished out 44 assists to go along with 10 digs.

Hopkins faced a tough New Jersey City team that entered the match with a record of 11-2 in its second match. This contest went to five games as New Jersey City captured game one by a score of 30-21. The Blue Jays bounced back to grab games two and three, 30-19 and 30-19. New Jersey City forced a fifth game with a 32-30 win in game four. The Blue Jays clinched the victory with a 16-14 win in game five. Jackanich, Fijalkowski and Lewis all posted their second double-doubles of the day. Jackanich led the Blue Jays with 16 kills while sophomore Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS) contributed 13 kills.

The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, September 22 for day two of the Salisbury Invitational. Hopkins is scheduled to face Centennial Conference rival, Gettysburg at 10 a.m. and Richard Stockton at 12 noon.
