Hopkins Upends #16 Princeton, 12-11

Sept. 24, 2007

PRINCETON, NJ - The Johns Hopkins water polo team traveled to Princeton on Sunday and defeated the #16 Tigers 12-11 at DeNunzio Pool. For the Blue Jays it was just their second ever win over the Tigers and first at Princeton. Hopkins defeated Princeton for the first time in October 14, 2005 15-14 in overtime.

All-Americans Sean McCreery (Pleasant Hill, CA/ De La Salle) and Peter Davis (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) combined for nine of the Blue Jays 12 goals.

Hopkins opened up a 5-2 lead in the first quarter and then extended it to 7-2 less than two minutes into the second quarter. The Tigers then got their offense going and held the Blue Jays scoreless for nearly two quarters. Princeton led 9-8 after three quarters, but Hopkins quickly retook the lead, rallying to win 12-11.

The win improves the Blue Jays record to 3-6 on the season. Hopkins' last eight opponents have been ranked 17th or higher in the CWPA Top-20. Hopkins takes on St. Francis in the first round of the ECAC Championships at 1:30 pm on Saturday. The Blue Jays will look to improve on their fifth place finish in 2006.
