Box Score

WESTMINSTER, MD - The #8 Johns Hopkins men's soccer team jumped on top early and did not look back in an 8-2 win over rival McDaniel on Wednesday afternoon. With the win the Blue Jays remain unbeaten at 10-0-0 overall and 3-0-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Green Terror drops to 6-2-2 overall and 0-1-2 in the conference. Wednesday's meeting was the 75th in the series that dates back to 1935.

Freshman David Drake (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) put Hopkins on the board in just the sixth minute when classmate Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) crossed the ball from the left side and Drake tapped it home. Just over four minutes later, Bukoski pushed the visitor's lead to two on a breakaway score. Bill Druckenmiller scored for the Green Terror in the 23rd minute on a hard shot to the left side, making it a one-goal game. Junior Nick Gauna (Evanston, IL/Evanston) answered in the 35th minute with his seventh of the season after a give-and-go with Bukoski.

Sophomore Evan Giles (Ponte Verde Beach, FL/Episcopal) pushed the Jays lead to three just four minutes into the second half thanks to a short pass from senior co-captain Ben McAbee (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown). Giles found the net again in the 56th minute, scoring from about 15 yards out. Less than five minutes later, McAbee scored from 20 yards out to make it a 6-1 game.

Junior co-captain Ethan Mulligan (Kearny, NJ/Kearny), who had missed nine games due to injury, returned to score his first goal of the season in the 68th minute. Freshman Brian Esoda (Hamilton, VA/Loudoun Valley) closed out the Blue Jays scoring in the 76th minute scoring off a long ball from sophomore Max Venker (Oldsmar, FL/Palm Harbor University High). Adam Sommers added a late goal for McDaniel, scoring off the post in the 81st minute.

The six-goal margin is the largest in the series since a 6-0 Hopkins win at Homewood Field on November 16, 2003. The eight Blue Jay goals are the most since an 8-0 win at McDaniel on September 18, 2002. In addition, the 10 goals scored in the game are the most ever in the series. Hopkins leads the all-time series 44-21-10 and is unbeaten in the last 18 meetings (17-0-1).

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 29 at Muhlenberg. The Centennial Conference match-up is set for 7:00 pm in Allentown, PA.
