HAVERFORD, PA - Lauren Kibbe's goal in the sixth minute proved to be the difference as Haverford topped the Johns Hopkins women's soccer team 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays (6-3-1, 2-1 CC) dropped their first Centennial Conference game since October 25, 2005 against Dickinson.
Kibbe's goal came just 5:07 into the contest as she settled a ball on the near side and and placed a high floater that went just over the hands of Blue Jay goalie Karen Guszkowski (Sayreville, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick). Hopkins out shot Haverford 7-2 in the first half.
The Blue Jays and Fords played a tightly contested second half. Junior Molly Steele (Daleville, VA/North Cross) had one go just wide and senior Cassandra Vogel's (Laurel Hollow, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) shot from just outside the box sailed just over the crossbar. Goalie Lindsey Festa led the Fords to the victory as Hopkins was awarded a corner kick with one minute to go in the game and the goalie saved two point blank shots.
Guszkowski finished with three saves on the afternoon while Festa made nit stops. Hopkins finished the game out shooting Haverford 16-4.
The Blue Jays are back in action on Monday, October 1 at 4 p.m. TCNJ, currently ranked third in the country visits historic Homewood Field for the final non-conference game of the year on the Blue Jays' schedule.
