ST. MARY'S CITY, MD - The #9 Johns Hopkins men's soccer team pitched its second straight shutout, defeating St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 3-0-0 on the season while the Seahawks fall to 1-2-0. Freshman Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) led the Blue Jays with two goals on the day.

It took nearly 43 minutes, but Hopkins got on the board when Bukoski found the back of the net for his second of the season. Sophomore Chand Balfour (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) gave the Blue Jays a two-goal cushion in the 75th minute with his second of the season off an assist from senior Ben McAbee (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown). Less than five minutes later, Bukoski connected with McAbee to make it a 3-0 game for Hopkins.

Sophomore Matt Mierley (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Acquinas) finished with five saves for his first career shutout at Hopkins. The Blue Jays had the edge in shots (25-13) and corners (8-5) in the win.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 8 with its home opener against Washington & Lee in the Citrano Medical Labs Kickoff Classic. The Blue Jays and the Generals will face off at 7 pm on Saturday in the second game. Buffalo State and DeSales will meet in the first game at 5 pm.
