St. Mary's City, MD - A 43-18 lead at the half, lifted St. Mary's over the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team by a score of 71-47 on Monday afternoon in non-conference action. The Blue Jays (5-9) received a double double from freshman Lyndsay Burton with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
St. Mary's jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Hopkins got its first points of the game on a layup by senior Andrea Dodrill. A lay-up by Steph Saint-Aubin at 14:41 made it a 13-3 game in favor of the hosts. St. Mary's outscored Hopkins 30-15 to close out the first half and take a 43-18 lead into the locker room. Megan Uglik had eight points for the Blue Jays during that stretch while Saint-Aubin knocked down nine. The Seahawks shot 55.2% in the first half to the Blue Jays 20.6%.
Hopkins opened the second half on a 12-6 run to make it 49-30 with 15:27 to play. Junior Kristin Phillips hit a trey during that stretch for the Blue Jays. Uglik made a lay-up at 14:26 to put the hosts up 21 and their lead would not fall below 20 the rest of the way.
St. Mary's shot 50% from the game and was led by Saint-Aubin with 19 points.Uglik had 15 including the 1,000th of her career. Kiely Murphy had nine rebounds to lead St. Mary's in that category.
Burton had her second double-double of the year while Dodrill and Anastasia Wynn each posted nine points on the night.
Hopkins returns to action on Thursday when its hosts McDaniel in Centennial Conference action at 7 p.m.
