GETTYSBURG, PA - The 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team dropped its first Centennial Conference game of the season on Wednesday night, falling 3-1 at Gettysburg. It is the Blue Jays (11-3-3, 5-1-2 CC) first loss at Gettysburg since Oct. 27, 1999 and snaps a nine-game unbeaten streak over the Bullets (8-4-4, 4-2-2 CC).
Kyle DeBlois put the Bullets on top early as he collected a long pass from Eric Hynes and fired a low shot from the right side into the goal in the 13th minute. The Bullets took a two-goal lead in the 38th minute after Chris Bayon scored on a centering pass from Kieren Lade.
Hopkins finally got on the board in the 71st minute as freshman Corey Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) collected a loose ball off a Blue Jay corner kick and put it past Adam Finkel, cutting the deficit to one. Gettysburg would get that one back however in the 87th minute. Ross Witte played a long ball into the box off an indirect kick and Hynes put it past junior Matt Mierley (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) to make it a 3-1 game.
Mierley finished with one save in the loss for the Blue Jays while Finkel stopped four of the five shots he faced.
Hopkins wraps up the regular season on Friday night as Washington College visits Homewood Field for a Halloween match-up. The Blue Jays and the Shoremen will square off at 7:00 pm.
