BALTIMORE, MD - A late second-half deficit plagued the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team as they fell to York, 70-61, in the Mike Durgala Memorial Basketball Tournament. York rises to 2-0 on the season as the Blue Jays slide to 1-1. Senior forward Kristin Phillips and sophomore forward Lyndsay Burton earned all-tournament honors for their contributions against York and Sewanee.

Three 3-pointers down the stretch were not enough to avenge an 11-point deficit with three minutes remaining in the second half. York's April Sparkman hit a trio of 3-pointers for 13 second-half points to put York on top after a 30-30 halftime tie. York's Keli Ward and April Sparkman each connected from beyond the arc, followed by an Amy Fry layup to gain a 43-37 advantage with 14 minutes remaining. Burton brought the Blue Jays to within four with two straight jumpers before Hopkins hit a three-minute scoring drought.

The Spartans capitalized to build an eight-point lead with 10:25 to go in the second half. Phillips hit one of her free throws at 10:07, but the Blue Jays wouldn't score again for another two minutes. Anastasia Wynn would end the dry spell for Hopkins with a free throw before Phillips hit her second 3-pointer to make it 53-46.

With York still up seven, Phillips hit another free throw. April Sparkman scored the next five points for the Spartans to give York a 13-point lead with under six minutes to play. Phillips charged through the lane with a layup and Katie Biggart followed, sinking a 3-pointer. York responded down the stretch, notching all seven of it's free throws in the final two minutes for a 70-61 victory.

Down nine with 6:39 to play in the first half, the Blue Jays assembled a 13-4 run to knot it at 30 before they headed into the locker room. Hopkins hit five of its seven free throws in the final six minutes of the first half along with a pair of jumpers from Anastasia Wynn as the Blue Jays battled back from a nine-point York lead.

Phillips finished with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Burton recorded 11 points and six rebounds.

Joining Phillips and Burton on the Mike Durgala All-Tournament squad was Anne Wills (Sewanee), Bre Dillion (Albright), Keli Ward (York) and MVP April Sparkman (York), who tied the tournament record for 3-pointers (5).

The Blue Jays return to action on Tuesday, November 25, hosting the Messiah Falcons. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
