CHAPEL HILL, NC - The #7 Johns Hopkins women's swimming team dropped two tough decisions on Saturday. Hopkins lost to a Division III opponent for the first time this season, falling 175-93 to #3 Emory. Hopkins dropped a 177-105 decision to #12 North Carolina. The Blue Jays conclude the regular season with a 7-4 record.

Freshman Meagan Heslin (Wyckoff, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) had the top finish of the day for the Blue Jays, finishing second in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:11.06. Classmate, Michele Palopoli (Gwynedd Valley, PA/Germantown Academy) came in third, finishing in 2:12.05. Hopkins opened the day with a fifth place finish in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of senior Erica Pakkala (Lititz, PA/Warwick), sophomore Caitlin Dennis (Moorestown, NJ/Merion Mercy Academy), sophomore Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA/Westminster) and junior Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/The Culver Academies) swam a time of 1:53.10.

Coming in sixth in the 1000 Free was freshman Kathleen Heslin (Wyckoff, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) with a career best time of 10:48.63. Dennis took fourth in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:08.95, a season-best time. Freshman Charlotte Floria (North Potomac, MD/Quince Orchard) came in sixth, finishing in 1:10.77. Rooney swam to a fifth place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 25.70.

Dennis finished in fifth in the 200 Breast with a season-best time of 2:28.30. Qu then finished in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.88. She followed that with a third place finish in the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:15.02. Dennis finished in fourth in 2:15.69. Hopkins closed out the meet with the 400 Free Relay. The team of junior Val Neff-Rasmussen (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer), freshman Elizabeth Dowdle (Tampa, FL/Academy of the Holy Names), Rooney and junior Kate Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) swam to a second place finish in 3:44.75. The team of freshman Kristin Deuber (Devon, PA/Episcopal Academy), sophomore Robin Schaffer (Dublin, OH/Columbus School for Girls), freshman Reagan Cuddy (Auburn, NY/Auburn) and sophomore Katie Vance (Apple Valley, MN/School of Environmental Studies) finished in fourth in 3:54.73.

The Blue Jays have the next week off as they prepare to defend their Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championship. The conference championship meet is being held in Charlotte, NC from February 14-16.
