Johns Hopkins Edges Franklin & Marshall 64-59

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's basketball team took an early lead on visiting Franklin & Marshall and held on in a back-and-forth game for a 64-59 win. The Blue Jays improve to 12-8 overall and 8-5 in the Centennial Conference, while the Diplomats fall to 11-9 and 6-7 in the conference. Senior guard Doug Polster (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) led three players in double figures with 15.

Sophomore forward Andrew Farber-Miller (Charlottesville, VA/St. Anne's-Belfield) gave Hopkins the lead on a lay-up just 2:19 and ignited a 12-2 run. The Blue Jays pushed out to a 12-4 lead during the run, while forcing four Diplomat turnovers in a span of just 90 seconds. It was a game of runs Hopkins never trailed in the game, however the Blue Jays never led by more than nine.

The second half was more of the same, a back-and-forth game. The Diplomats answered every Blue Jay run and eight times got the game to within one possession. Though Hopkins struggled down the stretch from the free throw line, Franklin & Marshall failed to capitalize, hitting just two field goals in the final 5:30 of the game. It was a balanced attack in the second half for Hopkins as all eight players scored in the final 20 minutes.

Junior Collin Kamm (Avon, NJ/Saint Rose) finished with 11 points and tied a season-high with five assists. Farber-Miller also finished in double figures with 10. Senior Kevin Roach (Derwood, MD/Magruder) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds as the Blue Jays won the battle of the boards (35-28). He now ranks 19th in school history with 226 defensive boards. Kamm also had two steals, moving him into a tie for 17th in school history with 72 in his career. Derek Hines led the Diplomats with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-11 shooting. James McNally was the only other Diplomat in double figures, finishing with 19.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, February 9 with at trip to Haverford. The Centennial Conference match-up is set to tip at 3:00 pm. The Blue Jays are in playoff contention and currently sit in a tie for third place with McDaniel.
