Johns Hopkins Falls to Buffalo State in Season Opener

BALTIMORE, MD - Buffalo State upended Johns Hopkins 3-0 in the first round of the Blue Jay Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field. JHU will now take on Penn State Altoona in the consolation game on Sunday afternoon.

Hopkins its chances early, but it was Buffalo State who capitalized in the 33rd minute. Tony Schiappa collected a long pass from Brandon Locar and shot it under junior goalie Neil MacLean (Richmond, VA/St. Christopher's School) as he came out to challenge. Schiappa found the net again in the 43rd minute, finishing his own rebound after a save by MacLean.

Justin Lofaro would wrap up the scoring in the 47th minute burying a shot in the upper corner off a pass from Andy Donner.

MacLean finished with three saves for the Blue Jays while Dan Corti posted four saves for the shutout.

Montclair State defeated Penn State Altoona 1-0 in the second game on Saturday, with MSU's Tyler Masterson notching the lone goal. Hopkins and Penn State Altoona will face-off at 1:00 pm in the consolation game on Sunday afternoon at Homewood Field. Montclair State and Buffalo State will battle for the Blue Jay Invitational title at 3:30 pm on Sunday.
