ALLENTOWN, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team defeated Muhlenberg in its first Centennial Conference match of the season, 3-0. Head coach Greg Giovanazzi and the Blue Jays are now 13-4 on the year.

In the first set with the Mules, Hopkins took control at the 20-point mark, 20-17 before scoring four of the next seven points. The Mules took a timeout at game-point, but the Blue Jays finished strong, forcing a Muhlenberg error to end the set, 25-20.

Junior Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS) scored three straight points to give Hopkins a nine point lead, 13-4 in the second set. The Blue Jays went up 17-6 before Muhlenberg took a timeout. The Mules returned from the break to score eight consecutive points, coming within four, 18-14. Both squads battled for points late in the set, but it was Hopkins that notched three late kills to end the set. Junior Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) closed the second stanza, downing a kill for game-point, 25-21.

In the third set, Hopkins notched nine kills to take a 10-7 lead before Muhlenberg tied it at 11. Each team battled for points mid-set, but Hopkins scored seven straight points from a tie at 15. Muhlenberg resorted to a timeout after the Mules produced an error, facing a 22-15 deficit. The Blue Jays captured the set, 25-20.

Freshman Sarah Feicht(Austin, TX/James Bowie) led Hopkins with 11 kills, with senior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius) had 17 digs. Senior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) collected 32 assists.

Hopkins returns to action on October 1, traveling to Dickinson to take on the Red Devils. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
