BALTIMORE, MD - - The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team took over after Gettysburg scored the first four point of the game, leading the rest of the way to its third consecutive Centennial Conference victory. The Blue Jays, who improve to 5-7 (3-2 Centennial), hit 14-of-20 second half free throws en route to a 62-50 defeat of the Bullets. Gettysburg moves to 6-7 (3-3 Centennial) on the season.
32 second-half fouls slowed the pace of the game, but allowed the Blue Jays to capitalize, scoring seven of their final 11 points from the charity stripe. JHU would lead by as many as 15 points in the second half, holding the Bullets to just 28% shooting from the field.
Gettysburg completed a 6-0 run to come within five points, 35-30, with 14:09 to play. Hopkins answered with a 9-2 stint of its own to make it 46-32 with 7:11 remaining.
The final eight minutes proved to be all-out war, with both teams committing a total of 19 fouls.
A 15-3 that came to a close with just 2:39 left in the first half put the Blue Jays up 30-14, setting up a 12-point halftime lead. JHU took advantage of sloppy play, scoring 16 of its 32 first-half points off of 12 Gettysburg turnovers.
Sophomore Lyndsay Burton (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, shooting .500 from the floor for her second double-double of the season.
