WESTMINSTER, MD - Host McDaniel jumped out to a 13-0 lead after three matches and never trailed in a 28-10 Centennial Conference dual-meet victory against visiting Johns Hopkins Tuesday night. The Blue Jays slip to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial with the loss, while the Green Terror improve to 6-9 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial.
McDaniel grabbed the early 13-point lead with wins at 197, 285 and 125. William Yeo scored an 11-0 major decision over Tyler Schmidt and Brock Glotfelty pinned Matt Rugani to stake the Terror to a quick 10-0 lead. After Zach Morris decisioned Adam Stevens at 125 (10-7), the Blue Jays got back in the match with back-to-back wins at 133 and 141.
Freshman Michael Testa got the Blue Jays on the board with a 12-4 major decision over Tim Hall and Rocky Barilla ran his winning streak to six matches with a 5-0 victory over Sean McGarry to close the deficit to 13-7.
That would be as close as the Blue Jays would get as the Terror won the next four matches to push out to 28-7 lead. Freshman Hector Cintron picked up JHU's other win as he closed the match with a 6-3 win over Ryan Dieter at 184. The win for Cintron avenges an earlier loss to Dieter.
Testa, Barilla and Cintron all picked up their 19th wins of the season - the three are tied for the team-lead in victories. Barilla is 19-10, while Testa and Cintron are both 19-12.
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Muhlenberg to take on the host Mules, Ursinus and Gettysburg in a trio of Centennial matches.
