BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins volleyball team had a modest two-match winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Blue Jays dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Gettysburg. The Blue Jays, who had won three straight against the Bullets, fell 25-20, 17-25, 25-23 and 25-21.
After splitting the first two games, the Blue Jays had a chance to take game three, only to have the Bullets pull out the two-point win (25-23) in a game that went back and forth. The fourth and final game was also tight, but Bullets held off the Blue Jays to secure the crucial league victory. The top five teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the conference tournament and the Blue Jays can likely afford no more than one more loss in league play.
A balanced Gettysburg attack featured six different players with six or more kills. Stephanie Rickabaugh led the way with 11 and added nine digs, while Virginia Hogan added 10 kills in the win.
Senior Alex Zenoff paced the Blue Jays with 11 kills and classmate Allison Cappelaere added eight kills and a team-high 15 digs.
The Blue Jays will return to action on Wednesday, October 14 when they travel to Franklin & Marshall.
