BALTIMORE, MD- For the second straight match, Johns Hopkins fell in five sets after winning the first two. After losing the first two sets (25-19, 25-20) Muhlenberg rallied to win the remaining three sets (25-18, 25-18, 15-13). With the loss, Hopkins falls to 13-9, 2-5 in the Centennial Conference and Muhlenberg improves to 8-9, 3-3 in the Centennial.
The first set was tied, 17-17, before Hopkins closed with an 8-2 run. Senior Kristen Kozielski finished the set with three points on her serve. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set and never looked back as they never relinquished the lead on their way to a 25-20 win.
Muhlenberg won the third and forth sets by identical 25-18 scores. In the fifth and deciding set Hopkins jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but the Mules battled back and took a 14-10 lead by scoring 12 of the next 15 points. Facing match point Hopkins fought to bring the score to 14-13 but fell just short as Muhlenberg stopped Hopkins at 13 to win the match.
Senor Alex Zenoff lead the Blue Jays in kills on the day with 12, while Kozielski recorded a season high 15 digs to lead the team on defense.
Sophomore Davi Gordon led Muhlenberg with 12 kills. Sophomore Jackie Price recorded eight blocks and freshmen Bryn Baker dished out 44 assists, both were team highs in the match for the Mules.
The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, October 24 when they host Bryn Mawr at 1:00 pm.
