Box Score

MUHLENBERG, PA - Junior Evan Kleinberg's (South Orange, NJ/Columbia) cross in the 104th minute was booted into the Muhlenberg goal by a Mules defender giving Hopkins a 2-1 win on Saturday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays win their fourth straight and improve to 10-2-0 (3-1-0 CC), while the Mules fall to 6-3-0 (3-1-0 CC).

The first 75 minutes saw a lot of up and down action before either team was able to break through. Muhlenberg got on the board first when Mike Gehrmann collected the ball and dribbled down the left side before firing a hard shot inside the left post in the 75th minute. Hopkins answered less than three minutes later to knot the score at 1-1. Sophomore Sean Duggan (Morristown, NJ/Seton Hall Prep) played the ball to junior Scott Bukoski (Sagamore, MA/Bourne) near the top of the box. Mules goalie Jason Daniels came out to challenge and Bukoski chipped the ball over his head and into the goal for his team and conference-leading 10th of the season.

That would be all the scoring for the next 26 minutes as both teams continued to press, but neither could break through. In the 104th minute, senior Max Venker (Oldsmar, FL/Palm Harbor University) played a beautiful ball over the Muhlenberg defense for a streaking Kleinberg. He collected the ball near the end line and with Daniels covering the near post, crossed it in front of the goal where a Muhlenberg defender ran in and attempting to clear it, kicked it into upper netting to give JHU the 2-1 win.

Senior Ravi Gill (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) finished with two saves to earn the win, while his scoreless streak was snapped at 429:19. Daniels finished with two saves in the loss for the Mules.

It was the sixth time since 1994 that the meeting has been decided in overtime, with Hopkins leading 4-0-2. It is also the 14th time in the series, out of 26 meetings, that has been decided by one goal.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 10 as Dickinson visits Homewood Field. The Centennial Conference game is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
