BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's crew team hosted the annual Caspersen Cup on Saturday and took home silver. JHU finished with 28 points to finish second behind Washington College (35). Coming in third was St. John's with 25 points.
In the Varsity Eight, Hopkins took second with a time of 6:46. Junior Stephen Hou (Fort Mill, SC/Fort Mill) served as coxswain, while senior Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) sat stroke. Sophomore Will Cooper (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderdice) was in the seven seat, with senior Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic) in the six seat and sophomore Marcus Webb (Moultrie, GA/Maclay School (FL)) in the five seat. Junior Adam Ammar (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) was in the four seat, sophomore Max Thorsbakken (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire Memorial) in the three seat and junior Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) was in the two seat while sophomore Eric Chen (Macungie, PA/Shanghai American School) was in the bow.
In the Varsity Four race, the "A" boat finished in second with a time of 7:29. Sophomore Alisha Tuteja (Arlington, VA/Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology) served as the coxswain and Reese sat stroke. Cooper sat in the three seat, with Ranieri in the two seat and Webb in the bow. The "B" boat finished in third in 7:38. Hou served as the coxswain with Ward sitting stroke. Thorsbakken sat in the three seat, with Ammar in the two seat and Chen in the bow.
And in the Men's Novice Four race, JHU took second with a time of 7:56.13. Freshman Kevin Chen (Orlando, FL/Winter Park) served as the coxswain, with freshman Frank Yao (Saratoga, CA/Saratoga) sitting stroke. Freshman Bob Huang (San Diego, CA/Mt Carmel) sat in the three seat, while freshman Cliff Jenkins-Houk (Lutherville, MD/Towson) sat in the two seat and sophomore Tyler Smith (Seattle, WA/West Seattle) was in the bow.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, April 5 as the team travels to Lorton, VA for the Occoquan Sprints.
