CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team used four second half goals to defeat Washington (MD), 5-0, in its Centennial Conference opener. The Blue Jays improve to, 5-2, while the Shorewomen fall to, 3-2.
The Shorewomen held the Blue Jays scoreless for most of the first half before Leslie O'Brien (Huntington, NY) scored off a rebound following a shot by Erin Stafford (Doylestown, PA). Hopkins held a 14-0 advantage in shots in the first half.
The Blue Jays made it 2-0 when Stafford sent a corner kick to Erica Suter (Ellicott, MD), who headed the ball past Washington's keeper in the 58th minute. Laura Moody (Rancho Palos, CA) tacked on the Blue Jays' third goal, posting her first career goal, at 59:26 on a penalty kick. JHU scored its fourth goal in the 66th minute when Suter sent a cross into the box, and Stafford was able to beat the Washington goalie for her first goal of the season. Allie Zazzali (Scotch Plains, NJ) made it 5-0 with a goal on a breakaway off an assist from Stafford in the 70th minute.
Johns Hopkins held a 32-2 advantage in shots in the game and recorded all eight of the contest's corner kicks.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 23 when St. Mary's (MD) visits Homewood Field. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm.
