COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team scored three goals in a span of just under 11 minutes in a 3-0 win over host Ursinus on a blustery afternoon at Wilkes Field Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 10-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in Centennial Conference action and move into third place in the conference standings. The Bears meanwhile, drop to 2-11-0 and 0-6-0 in the conference.
Senior Chris Wilson finally got the Blue Jays on the board, scoring his first goal of the season from his defensive position. He controlled the ball along the left touchline, dribbling up and cutting in about six yards from the end line. Just inside the box, he fired a low hard shot inside the right post to put the visitors up 1-0 in the 60th minute. Less than 90 seconds later, a bang-bang play resulted in a goal for senior Kevin Hueber. Junior Sean Coleman dribbled into the box from the left and played a nice ball into junior Sean Duggan. Duggan fired a shot from in-tight, but Bears' goalie Mike Alfieri was able to get a hand on it. The ball kicked out to Hueber who one-timed it towards the goal. Alfieri once again got a hand on it, but it wasn't enough as the ball crossed the goal line in the 61st minute.
Coleman got in on the scoring in the 71st minute after senior Evan Kleinberg played a nice through ball that sprung Coleman. He collected the pass, dribbled up the middle and scored on a low shot to the left corner from about 18 yards out.
Senior goalie Ravi Gill played 75:20 in goal for the Blue Jays and made one save before giving way to freshman John Belanger, who was not forced to make a save. For the Bears, Alfieri finished with nine saves in the loss. Hopkins held a 25-3 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corners.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 23 as Franklin & Marshall visits Homewood Field. The Centennial Conference match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
